A week later....

We still haven't recovered but how life goes on...

(I rarely comment on the numerous concerts of which I am in attendance, though it is occasionally necessary)
So Ryan Adams....
In concert. Is the most frighteningly insane spectacle I have witnessed.
The night consisted of comparing himself to a lava lamp; expressing his need for more "weed"; stumbling about the stage; singing a piano-accompanied song about putting his "penis on a desk," insisting that he isn't a drunk ("I'm fucked up and alcohol just intensifies that"); rambling endlessly about his depression and other extremely random tidbits of information; introducing a song with, "This song is off of some album I did, I don't know..." Nothing out of the ordinary for Ryan Adams.

The incessant rambling obiously began to irritate people and the most honest and humorous point of the evening was when a fan yelled: "Less talk, more rock." I expected guitar-throwing, harmonica-stomping, falling-off-the-stage worthy rage reminiscent of "Summer of '69" requests and subsequent tantrums. Instead, Ryan Adams laughed and stated, "that's the funniest thing I've heard all night."

In conclusion, I can agree with Ryan by stating, this dude is FUCKED UP. More than can be imagined without witnessing his antics in person. He annoys the hell out of me, but his talent in undeniable. His need for attention, ridiculous. But something about him is intriguing; concern becomes sympathy, possibly adoration. Why has self destruction suddenly become attractive?

Governor James McGreevey bid himself adieu today, as his resignation will take place November 15th. It is clear after last week's voting patterns that a gay man in political office is unbearable. Ahhh... the land of free, the home of the brave.

-Seeking a constitutional ban on gay marriage.
-Moving “this goodhearted nation toward a culture of life,” a reference to the abortion issue.

So the future holds an American citizenry that values Fundamentalism, homophobia, and eliminating a notion we once called freedom.

Names mentioned as possibly leaving or changing positions include Secretary of State Colin Powell, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, Attorney General John Ashcroft, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge and Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson.

*Sleater-Kinney signed to Sub Pop. New album is in the works.Working with famed producer Dave Fridmann. This band has been dominating my music rotation lately (so therefore worth mentioning).

*Jayhawk Basketball. Old news but good news. And Missouri is finally getting what they deserve.

*Ooooh. And legal downloading. It's alive and well.

*I may have to start watching the Surreal Life next season.

I have never been an addict. Drugs... nah. No gambling. Maybe alcohol...
But this has all changed.
So I am here to make a confession. And in this I am quite reluctant....
